Higher complication rates but limited treatment in patients diagnosed with very late-onset IBD after age 70

: 06.09.2024

In this new population-based study, we examined the epidemiology, natural history, and treatment patterns in patients with very late-onset IBD (those diagnosed after the age of 70 years) and compared them with those diagnosed in between the ages of 60-69 years.

We observed that even though the burden of disease complications is higher in adults with very late-onset IBD compared with those with late-onset IBD, there is limited use of effective steroid-sparing medications and surgery in this population.
