New study: IBD 13 x up

Published online: 18.09.2025

We are excited to announce the first results from the collaborative UAE Epi-IBD Study, published in BMJ Frontline Gastroenterology.

The study provides the most detailed look at Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in the UAE to date. Between 2002 and 2024, a nearly 13-fold increase in new IBD diagnoses was observed, with a significant number of Crohn’s disease patients presenting with an aggressive form of the disease at diagnosis.

Our findings reiterate the need for early and effective intervention.

The UAE Epi-IBD Study, headed by Dr. Mohammed Nabil Quraishi, is funded by Department of Health Abu Dhabi.
