Signs of inflammatory changes present at birth in VEO-IBD patients

Our new study in Gastroenterology shows indications of inflammatory changes already present at birth in patients who develop IBD before age 6. In this unique study, using neonatal blood samples from 464 individuals who later developed IBD, we observed decreased levels of IL-4 and increased levels of IL-17A. The observation is novel and may shed light on disease occurrence and pathophysiology.
