New study in Gut shows that both maternal and paternal IBD diagnosis before childbirth is associated with higher IBD risk in offspring. The study includes Danish children born from 1997 to 2022 and their parents.
 
Factors other than in utero maternal inflammation play a role in IBD risk and future studies of early life risk factors of IBD need to also focus on the paternal parent.
